WEEK FIVE

For this week's session, we reviewed the trend forecasting handbook on The Diffusion of Innovation Curve Review and presented it in class. The main focus here was to understand the speed of adoption follows a bell curve which the graph that seeks to explain how, why, and at what rate new ideas and technology spread.

The Diffusion of Innovation Curve

Prediction of Upcoming Trends

Modern concept

I have few ideas in mind for my trend prediction based on modern concept such as modern romanticism, fetishism, comfort, naturalism and charism.

Therefore, I started my research with modern living patterns.

The modern living has a number of advantages which includes high standards of living by the new development of high technologies. On the other hand different modern life style patterns effects a personal differently on their health physically, socially, and psychologically.
The modern ways of living is high intake of stress. This is due to specific reasons such as the shortage of rest. Lack of physical activity leads to health issues. Frequently using of modern technology is the way of modernity. Although use of these machines has its pros and cons.

Furthermore, high demand of comfort increased stress level and depression.
The need for modern comfort is conveyed through nostalgia with inspiration originating from the eighties and soft colored pastels.

I think comfort can be conveyed through oversized outerwear with fur
and use of quilting.

WEEK FOUR

After today's session, I have learned the definition of fashion forecasting is a global career which focuses on upcoming trends by predicts the colors, fabrics, textures, materials, prints, graphics, beauty & grooming, accessories, footwear, fashion styles that will be presented on the runway and in the stores for the upcoming seasons.

It is also predicts of the mood, behaviour and buying habits of the consumer by analysing the ever-changing lifestyle influences, forecasting techniques rapidly evolve from the traditional and static.

Nowadays it is no longer just identifying customers by age, income or geography, but looking further into their mood, beliefs and the occasion by analysing how and why they make purchases.

I have gained a better understanding about the importance of fashion forecasting. Fashion is a complex phenomenon consisting of style ideas, prophetic styles, capture the mood of times, signal new trends, organising & analysing theories of fashion by looking at psychological, sociological, cultural and commercial evidential supports.

Fashion involves change, novelty, and the context of time, place, and wearer. The theories of fashion forecasting distribute the flow of fashion has been described as a movement, a flow, or trickle from one element of society to another. The diffusion of influences such as the trickle-down, trickle-across, or trickle-up theories.

Trickle up - Innovation is initiated from Street Fashion to High Fashion

Trickle down - High Fashion to Mass production. The adaptation from top strata of society and gradually becomes accepted by those lower in the strata.

Trickle cross - Fashion moves horizontally between groups on similar social levels and adopting from one group to another

In order to forecast fashion, we have to research on following key elements. Such as elements economic changes, cultural changes, globalisation, social changes, competitor performance and accessibility of sophisticated communication technologies.

The process of Fashion Forecasting requires of a mental map which consists market conditions, lifestyle consumer observation, sales statistics and fashion publications.

Reflecting, this session is evitable for further development of my forecasting trends. Strong knowledge and understanding of the process for researching can truly get myself to easily develop resourceful fashion trends.

Golden Triangle of Finding Evidential Supports

Prediction of Upcoming Trends

As festive Lunar New Year approaches, and with it begins the Year of Rooster. The Chinese cultural trend has developed undeniable influences to the western culture and fashion trends to emerge with norms, especially on this festival season. Red, yellow and green considered lucky colours.

Year of Rooster

With the colours in mind, I have predicted another 5 more colours by creating image mosaic with rooster.

Singapore Chinese Roster Lantern

I am trying to draw inspiration from cultural heritage on the traditional art and crafts such as Chinese lantern which infuses of DIY, deconstruction, reconstruction and customisation. This is driving a new generation signifies a reaction to the increasingly popularity of Asian arts and culture infusion in the Western countries.

Re-creating and manipulating objects creating an ad-hoc aesthetic in tactility style. This is translated into revival of  Cheongsam as well as the major influence of layering, flower prints, glitters, line of lace dresses, mix and match styling on the streets. I also see this through by using of unexpected colour combinations with for example pastel palettes that are suddenly offset by colour 5 and 7 (shown above).
